Ukraine's attacks on Russia are pushing Putin closer to negotiating table, Trump NATO ambassador says

Ukrainian attacks inside Russia are helping push Moscow and Kyiv closer to the negotiating table, U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matt Whitaker said on Saturday, as President Donald Trump continues pressing Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to negotiate an end to the war.

Whitaker emphasized during "The Big Weekend Show" that it would take the cooperation of both adversaries to end the war, but said Ukraine "continuing to make strong attacks on Russia... is helping to, I think, bring the sides closer together."

The ambassador cautioned that Moscow and Kyiv still remain "a long way apart" on key issues, adding that the resolution would not come through hostilities.

"This conflict is not going to be resolved on the battlefield. It's only going to [be resolved] through diplomacy and negotiation," he said.

"That's why President Trump and his team continue to talk to both sides to find any similarities between the positions to bring them together."

If Putin is unwilling to compromise, striking a deal will be "impossible," said Whitaker.

"But I think if there's a deal to be made, President Trump is a businessman, he's a dealmaker, and I think he'll make the deal."

Trump said Saturday that 25,000 people were killed last month and another 32,000 the month before in the war between Ukraine and Russia.

"Last month, 25,000 people died in the Ukraine-Russia war, okay? Twenty-five thousand," Trump told reporters on the White House lawn.

"The month before that, 32,000 people died … mostly soldiers, 97% soldiers," he added. "But whether they're soldiers or civilians, think of it: 32,000. Two months ago, 33,000 people; this month, 25,000 people died. What a shame."

Russia alone has lost as many as 450,000 soldiers since invading Ukraine in 2022, according to the Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS).

All three pedestrians were taken to hospitals. One was brought to MY Hospital, where doctors declared the person dead. The other two are undergoing treatment for serious injuries, according to police.

The accident also prompted an angry reaction from people gathered at Rajwada. After helping passengers get out of the bus, members of the crowd allegedly threw stones and bricks at the vehicle. Its windows were smashed and the bus was damaged.

Police are working to identify the person who died and the two people receiving treatment. Sisodia said their families would be informed once their identities were confirmed. No names or other identifying details were available in the initial report.

The condition of the two injured people was described as serious, but police did not provide further medical details. It was also not immediately clear whether anyone inside the bus was hurt during the collision or the subsequent stone-pelting.

Jets RB Breece Hall leaves game vs. Lions early with thigh injury after awkward tackle

The New York Jets lost running back Breece Hall early on Sunday afternoon.

Hall left their matchup with the Detroit Lions early in the fourth quarter after he was brought down awkwardly near the goal line at Ford Field.

Hall was running to the outside when he was tackled by Lions linebacker Trevor Nowaske just shy of the end zone. He seemed in obvious pain almost instantly, and reached for his thigh as he rolled over out of bounds.

He remained down for quite some time, and then went into the medical tent. The Jets quickly ruled him out with a thigh injury. Further specifics are not yet known.

Hall had 32 yards on 13 carries when he went down, and had another 23 receiving yards on three catches on the day. The former Iowa State star is up to 163 rushing yards with one touchdown this season, his fifth in the league.

Hall ran for more than 1,000 yards for the first time in his career last season. He was set to play the 2026 campaign under the franchise tag, but the Jets finally reached a three-year extension with him in May.

The Jets entered Sunday’s contest at 1-1 on the year. They opened the season with a 23-10 win over the Tennessee Titans, but fell last week to the Green Bay Packers in their home opener.

It is still very early, but Hall’s absence will make undoubtedly things much more difficult for the Jets offense should he be sidelined for any significant amount of time.
