‘Big step’ – Atlanta Dream fans excited as Angel Reese and Rhyne Howard honoured with AP awards

The Atlanta Dream franchise had a good day at the office as two of their star players were honoured in the recent Associated Press WNBA awards.

Angel Reese secured the AP Defensive Player of the Year award, making her the first Dream player to achieve this feat.
The ‘Bayou Barbie’ was also selected to the second-team All-WNBA, alongside her teammate Rhyne Howard. They became the first Dream teammates to win AP awards.
The official WNBA awards are yet to be announced, but fans were excited to see their stars achieve these recognitions.
Fans react to Dream duo’s AP award announcement
Reese and Howard have been instrumental in the Atlanta Dream’s run to the playoffs this season.
AR averaged 16.4 points, Howard put up 17.7 points per game, while also being solid on defence for the team.
The team has been solid throughout the year and finished the season fourth in the WNBA standings.
Fans were excited to see the Dream players receive recognition from AP.
One user wrote on X, “Two elite teammates, two major honors, and a big step for the franchise. Atlanta is building something real.”
While another added, “Angel Reese the goat.”
A fan showed happiness that Howard and AR were honoured, but also pointed out the Dream players who missed out on receiving any recognition.
“Oh wow!!! Congrats to the ladies but why are they forgetting Alisha Gray and JC Canada?,” the account user wrote.
Another fan said, “Ok can’t wait for the WNBA Dpoy to be announced in couple days congrats to Angel and Rhy.”
“Yes!!!!@Reese10Angel is my favorite and so deserving of this honor. Rhyne you are doing your thing!! No limits to your DREAM,” another fan added.
Reese is one of the candidates to win the WNBA DPOY award. However, the recognition from AP is also a massive achievement for the 24-year-old, who recently won gold with Team USA at the FIBA World Cup.
