2027 NFL Draft Summer Scouting Report: CJ Carr, QB, Notre Dame
· Yahoo Sports
When it comes to drafting quarterbacks early in the draft, you have to be 100% certain you know what you're getting. Drafting projects or quarterbacks who haven't shown you much is always a higher gamble. When it comes to Notre Dame's CJ Carr, we have one season of film to go over, but what we saw last season was impressive.

However, are we sure he is near the top of the 2027 NFL Draft class? Let's talk about it.
- Height: 6'3"
- Weight: 210 lbs
- Recruiting rank: Four-star recruit, no. 6 quarterback nationally in 2024
- Hometown: Saline, Michigan
- Games watched: Miami, Texas A&M, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh
Strengths:
- Throwing motion is compact, always the same, despite pressure
- Out-breaking routes are his bread and butter
- Footwork is clean and crisp more often than not
- Does a great job leaving the previous play behind
- Has plus touch on his deep throws
Weaknesses:
- Next to no rushing upside
- Will not bring a ton of creativity when escaping the pocket
- Arm strength is above average at best, will not blow you away
- Would like to see him add 10 lbs to his slender frame
CJ Carr put some good things on tape last season, but there was not a ton that really blew people away. In terms of upside, it feels like there is a lower ceiling than others in this class. However, there are a ton of tools that NFL teams can work with. Carr is probably in the QB4-6 range; it's hard to give him a firm ranking with so many question marks. Right now, he feels more like a day two quarterback you bring in to sit and learn.
