Report – Milan Making Strides in Pursuit of Sporting CP Defender

Serie A giants Milan have reportedly earmarked around €40 million for the purchase of Sporting CP stalwart Goncalo Inacio. According to Corriere dello Sport via Calciomercato, the clubs had already reached an agreement toward the end of the summer transfer window.

Despite accepting Milan’s offer, Sporting eventually decided against selling the 25-year-old center-back. The Primeira Liga heavyweights couldn’t find a suitable replacement for their best defender, forcing them to pull the plug on the deal. However, Milan are likely to make a fresh attempt for the Portuguese ace in January.
Ruben Amorim is familiar with Inacio’s qualities, having coached him in Lisbon for four years. In fact, the new Milan boss promoted Inacio to the first team in 2020 and helped him develop into one of Europe’s most highly rated defenders. Therefore, it’s unsurprising that the ex-Manchester United manager is keen for a reunion.

Meanwhile, Inacio would be a major coup for Milan, given his vast experience in the Primeira Liga and elite European competitions. Furthermore, Sporting are ready to sanction the deal, though they must find a decent heir first.
