“Comical At This Point”: NFL World Reacts As Analyst Makes Bold Chiefs Playoffs Claim

Former NFL general manager Mike Tannenbaum made a bold prediction on ESPN’s “Get Up” last week, saying the Chiefs will miss the playoffs. His reasoning quickly sparked debate across social media, with many fans pushing back against his assessment of Kansas City’s chances.

Tannenbaum pointed to three major questions surrounding the Chiefs entering the new season. And after SleeperChiefs shared his comments on X, fans criticized the take.

“These analysts really know nothing about the Chiefs at all and it’s comical at this point,” one fan wrote.

Another questioned Tannenbaum’s assessment of Kansas City’s secondary, posting, “CB depth is hilarious. This guy is getting a paycheck? Lol.”

Some pointed to the franchise’s proven track record under Mahomes.

“…Chiefs have the best QB room in the league, a top 10 RB, and a defense that can get by at a low end, a top 10 defense if they truly mesh. KC will be fine,” another fan commented.

“Yeah as long as one of Fulton/sneed/elam can be healthy and not a spud our outside depth is fine. We’ve got plenty of options in the slot. Kohou, Canady, CRW,” another user posted.

“There’s a reason he isn’t a NFL GM anymore,” one fan wrote.

Another added, “Look, it’s Mike Tannenbaum talking. His takes are just horrible. I see why he’s not a GM anymore.”

What Were the 3 Concerns Mike Tannenbaum Outlined for Chiefs?

“The Kansas City Chiefs will miss the playoffs for a few reasons, starting at quarterback,” Tannenbaum said. “There’s some uncertainty about whether Patrick Mahomes will be ready to go from Day 1.”

He also questioned Kansas City’s receiving corps after the team finished 16th in yards per pass attempt last season.

“Secondly, they lack explosiveness at receiver. … Some questions (about) Rashee Rice. Will he be ready to go?”

“Thirdly, at corner, they lost two great corners in Jalen Watson and Trent McDuffie. They did draft Mansoor Delane, re-sign L’Jarius Sneed, but for a great Kansas City Chiefs team, (it is) unusual to have three important question marks.”

Despite those concerns, many Chiefs fans argued the analyst was overlooking the team’s strengths.

Kansas City enters the new season looking to rebound after losing its streak of AFC West titles in 2025.

Whether Tannenbaum’s prediction proves accurate remains to be seen, but judging by the early reaction online, plenty of fans believe writing off Mahomes and the Chiefs is a mistake.

Johannesburg motorists warned of MAJOR traffic disruptions on 30 June

· The South African

Motorists travelling through Johannesburg on Tuesday, 30 June, are being urged to leave earlier than usual or consider alternative routes, as three approved marches are expected to cause widespread traffic disruptions across the city.

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) says significant delays and rolling road closures are expected between 07:00 and 16:00 as thousands of people participate in separate marches in the Johannesburg CBD, Hillbrow and Midrand.

Integrated law enforcement teams, including JMPD officers and SAPS Public Order Policing, will be deployed across the city to monitor the demonstrations, manage traffic and ensure public safety.

“Significant traffic disruptions and delays are anticipated between 07:00 and 16:00,” the department said in a statement.

Three marches planned in Johannesburg

Authorities said all three marches have been legally approved and will take place simultaneously in different parts of Johannesburg.

The first and largest procession is expected to attract around 5 000 participants.

Organised by March & March, the demonstration will focus on issues including inner-city safety, youth development and improved access to community services.

Participants will gather at Beyers Naudé Square before marching to Constitution Hill, where they intend to hand over a memorandum to the Hillbrow Station Commander.

The march is scheduled to take place between 10:00 and 14:00 and will move along Helen Joseph Street, Troye Street, Twist Street, Kotze Street and Queen Street.

Hillbrow march to Home Affairs

A second march, organised by the Labour and Civic Organisation (LACO), is expected to draw approximately 1 200 participants.

The group plans to raise concerns relating to illegal immigration policies and will march to the Department of Home Affairs to deliver a memorandum.

Participants will gather at the intersection of Kotze and Hospital streets before proceeding to Plein Street.

This march is expected to take place between 09:00 and 12:00.

Labour march in Midrand

A third demonstration will be held in Glen Austin, Midrand.

The Mayibuye Youth Activism Movement is expected to lead around 800 participants in a march focused on youth employment opportunities.

Marchers will gather at the open space on the corner of Dale Road and Modderfontein Road before proceeding to the Sandton Plant Hire offices to hand over a memorandum relating to local employment concerns.

The procession is expected to run from 10:00 until 12:00, with participants dispersing by around 13:00.

Expect rolling road closures

JMPD said rolling road closures and temporary barricades will be implemented as each procession moves along its approved route.

The department warned motorists to avoid affected streets wherever possible and make use of alternative routes.

Law enforcement officials will also remain on high alert throughout the day to respond to any spontaneous protests, pickets or public gatherings that may arise.

Authorities are encouraging commuters to plan their journeys carefully, allow extra travel time and follow all instructions from traffic officers on duty.

“Please exercise extreme patience, follow the directions of JMPD and law enforcement officers on the ground, or plan your travel outside the affected areas during these times,” the department said.

South Africa jumps ten places in World Competitiveness Ranking

· The South African

South Africa jumped ten places in the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking in 2026. It rose to 54 out of 70 economies from 64 in 2025.

It had stagnated near the 60 level for a number of years. Its rank in 2022 was 60, followed by 61 in 2023 and then 60 in 2024.

Consequently, the main drivers of the improved ranking were efficiency gains. Business efficiency improved to 42 from 57 and government efficiency gained to 54 from 63.

The best ranking was for prices at 7. This highlights the South African Reserve Bank’s push to aim for a 3% inflation target. In 2025, the average annual consumer inflation rate was 3.2% from 4.4% in 2024, 6.0% in 2023 and 6.9% in 2022.

Unfortunately, economic performance however shows a persistence weakening trend with the rank deteriorating from 59 in 2022 to 64 in 2026.

Rule of law

The report ranks the competitiveness of 70 global economies, with the small economies of Singapore, Hong Kong SAR, and Switzerland taking the top three spots.

Consequently, this shows that you do not have to be big to be competitive.

The rule of law is a recurrent theme throughout the 2026 report. This was defined as the extent to which public authority is bound by established rules, private rights where obligations are enforceable, and administrative decisions are sufficiently predictable.

That is why the Zondo and Madlanga Commissions are so important as they seek to re-establish public trust in the government and criminal justice system.

“Rule of law deserves a leading role today as part of the institutional operating system that allows competitiveness to endure even when put under stress,” the report stated.

Upholding the rule of law makes policy implementation predictable and economic signals credible. This in turn boosts competitiveness outcomes.
